shark a-snack!
lois was ordering some chinese from a place called the beijing chinese restaurant and takeaway (er, mouthful) in new denham and whilst browsing the menu noticed a dish which i had been searching for for a long time, to no avail - shark! shark fin soup to be more exact. and since i was not satisfied with just eating emu and cuttlefish for one day, i opted for the chicken variety.
finally it came all wrapped up nicely in a brown paper bag (for the life of me i do not know why i included a picture of said bag) and in a fairly rubbish looking polystyrene bowl. a neat transfer to a ceramic bowl and the meal was ready. the soup itself looked akin to vomit, with small chicken strips and lots of shark fin bits floating around in a medium thick liquid. the smell was lovely though and i wasn't afraid of diving right in there, with a spoon of course.

the taste was annoyingly bland. avoiding the chicken, i scooped up a spoonful of shark and goo and poured the rather too hot soup onto my tongue. once my taste buds had fixed themselves, i was disappointed. considering i might have killed my taste, i ate a prawn cracker. fine. to be sure, i ate another. still fine. after about thirty prawn crackers i was able to rest assure that my taste buds were fine and got on with the soup, now cooler. still disappointment i am afraid to report! but, a strike is a strike, and this was an awesome seafood strike for the list.ten more to go, 21 days to do it! ahhhh.
