the golden sausage of progress

a feast of beasts: blesbok, eland, impala and kudu manwich. and beast feaster threadibles!

well, what a busy few weeks! dissertation handed in, massive hibernation followed. emerging from my cave, arms outstretched in a ferocious yawn, breathing in the freedom from the completion of my dissert.. *thud* a torrent of coursework lands squarely in my face. mounds of the stuff. actual mounds. not only that, but i was trying to busy myself with the magic that is the beast feaster shop (or beast feaster threadibles as i affectionately call it). but more about that later.

my good friend's at osgrow, especially joe for putting up with my constant fussing, have delivered what might possibly be their final package - i've eaten the majority of their animals now! i decided i would go for my maximum eating capacity, four animals, in one go. and why not eat four different animals of the same family? why not. oh, go on then. so i decided i would make some sort of mega-quadruplo-bovidae-steak-manwich. four different antelopes (blesbok, eland, impala and kudu) all housed in the same bread apartment. well, deuce bread apartments as there was so much antelope. in the picture below the antelopes run in alphabetical order - blesbok top left, eland top right, impala bottom left and kudu bottom right. before whacking them all in a manwich, i decided that i was going to try each meat separately, so i cooked up four antelope nuggets. the blesbok didn't really step up to the plate, so to speak, and tasted a bit flat and boring. the eland was smooth and tasted a bit like it had been eating a lot of twigs before it died. it almost tasted wood-like. next up came the impala, which was incredibly chewy but had a lovely aroma about it as it cooked which played on the palette upon mouth entry. finally was the kudu, a glorious meat that had a lot of subtle flavours, though i suspect these came from the previous three meats juices left in the pan.
on with the meal and the creation of the manwich! first off, i heated a pan with a bit of oil in it til it was really hot and threw in a load of chopped shallots and a bit of sugar. i browned these off until they were lovely and caramelised, before setting them aside for the main show. i cooked the meats in order so i knew who was who, and just gave them all a gentle pan frying before laying them down onto the manwich. i prepared the bread with a layer of mayonnaise and lettuce, with a touch of pepper, before placing the beasts down in alphabetical order manwich style, two animals to each bread. caramelised shallots were then lovingly draped over the antelopes and the manwich(es) were complete.
what a glorious construction! the mayonnaise played off the shallots like a glorious game of table tennis whilst the separate meats brought their own flavours to the event. the impala was still chewy but that didn't matter as the kudu averaged everything out by being really soft and tender. it still tasted good even when someone compared the manwich to genocide.

now, enough about the food i hear you yell, tell us about beast feaster threadibles! and i will. the shop is up and running and has been an egg for some time, that has now hatched into a fully fledged phoenix of clothing wonder! and not one that's like set on fire and stuff. at the beast feaster shop you will find meat-based clothing so you can show everyone how much you love eating animals and animal-related eatings. though there are only a few shirts as of present, more are flowing in thick and fast like really old custard, but better. i really want to tell you about some of the designs but i'm going to keep some secrets that can leap out from behind a bush at you some time soon. not yet, but soon.

also, check out the snazzy jazz i put in the right-hand menu. snazzy no? it refreshes every once in a while so keep your eyes peeled for something super ace why not. and tell all your friends and digg me, email me around, stumble me and other stuffs you know, get the word around.

oh and give me your money and i'll give you some shirts, alright? sweeeeet.
