chocolate covered curry cricket cupcakes
man, i love alliteration, don't you? in this case, it perfectly describes today's dessert - chocolate covered curry cricket cupcakes. mmm. i was going to bake my own cakes and hide the crickets in them, but due to a lack of time (yes, i am still doing my dissertation would you believe) we decided to buy six cupcakes and cut out a little hole for the lovely crickets, courtesy of edible, to hide in. i then closed them inside their temporary tomb, waiting to be devoured. these crickets were thai green curry flavour so i wasn't so sure how the conflict of taste would go down, but it was worth a shot. steve joined me in the eatings today.

well, it didn't taste of much apart from cheap cupcakes. with an added crunchy bit. so disappointing was this that i decided to knock a few crickets back straight out of the packet. once i got passed the sheer delight of throwing insects into my mouth i chewed. or rather crunched. to my surprise they tasted like spicy peanuts full of air. these bad boys were certainly not as bad as the ants, definitely a step in the right direction insect-wise.. crickets, however, are not going in my top ten.
