mighty boosh inspired: eel
spending christmas near the coast has been fun and before i leave i figured i should go and get some fresh fish for the quest. having already eaten oily saltwater fish, having a plan for white saltwater fish and not being able to conjure up anything to eat that is freshwater and white i decided to go for an awesome oily freshwater fish. and i chose eel (mostly due to the fact that i cannot get the eel song from mighty boosh out of my head). though i did shudder when i first picked it up, not so keen on the fishy ones me but then that is what this whole quest is about. now i am sat here mindlessly eating the grilled eels i just cooked and i can tell you that they don't taste as scary as i once thought. in fact, that thought was probably twenty minutes ago just before i tried to take a bite out of the uncooked eel.
putting aside that i am a man with a seafood phobia, i bit straight into the skin-bound meaty part and to my horror couldn't bite through the skin! i did manage to get a mouthful of the fish though, and it tasted wonderful. i will add that it was smoked eel, otherwise it would probably have been a bit gross. it did taste rather salty but i kinda liked that. on retrospect, i bet the skin is full of mercury so quite a good job to avoid that. i figured i would have to de-bone and de-skin the beast, so i went about it with a tiny knife and no experience. having not destroyed it i took the fillets i had crafted and placed them under the grill, splashing on a tiny bit of lemon juice for no apparent reason. when they came out they were nicely browned, not too cooked.

i dived straight in and was greeted with salty heaven. i did find the fish quite fatty, but the taste was damn nice, certainly very smoky. i can imagine this goes well in an actual meal but was quite a wonderful snack none-the-less.it appears that i now only have four seafood options left, hopefully another will also be consumed with zest shortly..
